www.chick-fil-aleadercast.com/atlanta

Here's another SkewURL (for the uninitiated, those are URLs spotted by URL-aholic Peter Askew of Search Bound) from Chick-Fil-A . Peter seems to eat there a lot!

This one is a mess of mashed up alllowercase and an ill-advised /slash. As Peter points, out it should've been Chick-Fil-A.com/LeadercastAtlanta or dropped Atlanta altogether and had a drop-down on the landing page.

As it stands, this URL is not chic. It's not ful-fil-ling. And it grades an F not an A.

AFFILIATEDOTCOM.com

Sorry for being AWOL these past couple months. Don't worry, I haven't been cured of my URL-aholism. Was just busy promoting my Google book via blog tour and settling into my new role at Kenshoo. More on why I took the gig on the now defunct Connectual blog.

Thankfully, my fellow URL-aholics have been busy URL-spotting in my absence. Here's one from the URLy bird himself, Peter Askew of SkewURL fame (this is his 43rd submission, mind you).

As Peter observed, "at first I thought the site was Affiliate.com... until I looked a little closer..."

Bottom line, Affiliate dot com dot com dot bombs.

www.FreshSeafood.com

Peter Askew sent this one in from Seattle. Love how they use "Smoke" like it's a verb rather than an adjective. At least the URL is sea-worthy, as in worthy of being seen.

1forall.us

Here's another SkewURL (that would be Askew-URLs for the uninitiated). Peter thought this was "cringe-worthy" but I don't mind the URL selection. Would love to see Leading Caps, though. 1ForAll.us. Now that's something I can get behind. If they really want this website to stand for something, they should make those letters stand out!

Sit Means Sit.com

Peter Askew is back with SkewURL #40. I'll overlook the spacing issues here because the letters are close together enough (not to mention it helps separate the 2 s's) and the Leading Caps make it clear it's an URL. I also think it's a pretty clever URL choice for a dog trainer. This URL is pretty doggone good!

followapolo.com

Bad URL

Here's another SkewURL -- Peter Askew's 39th submission to date. He points out the spacing issues that could cause some to read this as GoFollowApolo.com. I have to agree that the placement of that "go" button is odd. This URL can't skate thru on alternating fonts alone.

The Road to TampaBay .com

Good URL

Peter Askew and I had a difference of opinion on this one. He thought the spaces made it look like they're promoting TampaBay.com but I think it's pretty obvious the URL is TheRoadToTampaBay.com, especially considering the context of the TV commercial. And, for as big an URLaholic as Mr. Askew is with 38 submissions to date, I still trump him with 407 total posts so that makes me head-geek-in-charge. So we're gonna go with good URL and get this show back on the road.

f-k.com

Bad URL

Peter Askew checks in with his 37th SkewURL. The man is a one man wreck-URLing machine. And while this cup may be eco-friendly (although I bet the folks over at Beta Cup would have something to say about that), the URL is not exactly reader-friendly. In fact, I'd go so far as say it's f-k'ed up. Iced coffee may go well with a dash of sugar but URLs don't go well with a dash of anything.

itunes .com/tv/the office

Bad URL
Peter Askew was on the ball with camera at the ready when this ill-fated URL appeared. Not sure what they were going for with the spacing. And putting everything after the root domain in orange only emphasizes what a clusterfreak it is. This URL has Michael Scott written all over it.

ALLHIGHLANDSNCREALESTATE.COM

Good URL

I swear Peter Askew has too much time on his hands. This is his 34th submission. As he put it, "It's long but it ain't half-bad." Yes, he was referring to the URL.

ESPNCHICAGO.COM

Good URL

Mr. Askew checks in again with this sporty URL. Nice integration of the ESPN logo and local customization, although methinks the "Log on to..." call to action is a bit dated. All in all, this URL's got its game-face on.

90sHits.com

Good URL

Here's another SkewURL. If this ain't a case study for Leading Caps, I don't know what is. This was almost a very shitty URL.

http://www.yellowbirdsdonthavewingsbuttheyflytomakeyouexperiencea3dreality.com/

Bad URL

It's not often that a single URL floods the Good URL Bad URL mailbox but I got this one from multiple sources including Buck Dossey and the, omniURLpresent, Peter Askew. I guess that's what happens when Tech Crunch features a 63 character URL. The product's actually pretty heady but the URLs just a bad trip.

www.therapistschoice.com

Bad URL

Here's another SkewURL. Goes to show how much alllowercase can skew (no pun intended that time) the meaning. This one could easily be advocating for sex criminals to have a say in whether mothers should keep the babies. This URL display is definitely not a wise choice.

www.realcitytv.tv

Bad URL

Another SkewURL here. Can't believe they were so late to the game, they couldn't even get RealCity.tv. It's unreal.

DRINKARIZONA.COM

???

OK folks, we've got another SkewURL here and need your help rating it.

Here are Peter's initial thoughts...

"On one hand, I salute them for using a normally abandoned piece of real estate on the juice jug to promote their site.. but when it all comes down to it, I'm a big naysayer on splitting domain names by line.. Since writing the name horizontally would have been a challenge, it seems they could have easily wrapped the name in a semi-circular fashion around the top and had a more effective presentation (in my opinion).. shoot, they may have been able to wrap the domain name twice, once on the top, then once more below, then used the crown image in the middle.."

And my response...

"I think by the BIG BOLD FONT they get the point across that the 3 "words" go together but I agree that a better presentation would've been wrapping. I'm gonna let the community vote on this one."

So what do you think?

USanFranOnline.com/WebMag

Bad URL

Here's a SkewURL that Peter sent in some time ago but slipped thru the cracks. Unfortunately, Leading Caps can't save this URL. It gets off to a bad start with the U next to the S which the eye is training to think United States. I read it as US an Fran Online thinking who is Fran and why are we with him/her online? And tacking on /WebMag makes an already too looooong URL even longer. As Peter said, "P-U."

www.Atlantagreenplumber.com

Bad URL

Beware Atlanta businesses -- no Bad URL escapes the eye or the lens of Peter Askew! Here the local plumber gets busted with dubs and a mix of case that doesn't work for me. Would much rather have seen straight leading caps. Props on the alternating fonts but the yellow on green reminds me of the color of what's in those clogged pipes. Maybe that's the point, though?? Either way, this URL leaves me feeling green.

DriveToSC.com

Good URL

Peter Askew puts up SkewURL #26. Short and sweet, Leading Caps, and acceptable Abbreviation really help this URL drive home the point.

www.J-AAC.com

Bad URL

Here's another SkewURL from the man, the myth, the legend, Peter Askew -- or shall we call him the King of the URL in the ATL? I won't repeat the joke he made about this URL but let's just say it was off-putting.
