DANiELISLANDTechSavvyKIDSCLUB.com

Let's hope they're not teaching kids how to choose and display domain names. Whoever came up with this looooong URL sure was riding the short bus!

oldworldpaintingandrefinishging.com

Bad URL

This one comes courtesy of Kurt Basham. As he observed, "Not only is it incredibly lengthy, it is in all lower case. And in a funky Gothic-y font." This URL is definitely old-school. I'm surprised he's not driving an Oldsmobile.

www.latenightwithjimmyfallon.com

Bad URL

If ALLCAPS acronyms (eg, www.FJVW.com) are at one end of the spectrum, alllowercase looooong URLs are at the other. And adding dubs sure doesn't help in either case. Unfortunately, like Jimmy Fallon himself, this URL is not funny, just funny lookin'.

http://www.yellowbirdsdonthavewingsbuttheyflytomakeyouexperiencea3dreality.com/

Bad URL

It's not often that a single URL floods the Good URL Bad URL mailbox but I got this one from multiple sources including Buck Dossey and the, omniURLpresent, Peter Askew. I guess that's what happens when Tech Crunch features a 63 character URL. The product's actually pretty heady but the URLs just a bad trip.

Tomb of the Unkown URL

Bad URL
I snapped this one a while ago using my blackberry, which does not have the best resolution. Obviously, you can't really read the URL. Not sure if that's because the camera sucks or the URL sucks. The answer is probably both. It doesn't take a 10x zoom lens to know that this URL is toooooo loooooong and the alllowercase doesn't give it a fighting chance. Big ups to anyone that can identify this long but not forgotten URL, may it rest in peace.

Update: Nate White didn't let his URL-aholism blur his vision and identified this as ICantBelieveImStillSingle.com. Not sure what could save this one in terms of display. Maybe some alternating fonts or colors. At least they didn't include the apostrophes.

www.websitebyus.com, path.to/domains, www.PresidentObamaAndFamily.com, www.UltimateBeAMomAndWorkPlan.com

Good and Bad URLs

Came across these four AdSense ads in my Gmail. Interesting hodgepodge...

The first gets lost in a sea of alllowercase.

The second reads like a sentence telling you that this website is the "path to domains." I like. The alllowercase works here as the punctuation breaks up the words.

The third one seems to be confusing the Government's bailout of GM with selling Obama URLs like they're cars -- financing and all!

And the last one is so looooong it cuts across the gmail frame onto my scroll bar.

USanFranOnline.com/WebMag

Bad URL

Here's a SkewURL that Peter sent in some time ago but slipped thru the cracks. Unfortunately, Leading Caps can't save this URL. It gets off to a bad start with the U next to the S which the eye is training to think United States. I read it as US an Fran Online thinking who is Fran and why are we with him/her online? And tacking on /WebMag makes an already too looooong URL even longer. As Peter said, "P-U."

www.europeantileandstoneinstallations.com

Bad URL

Dave Walker weighs in with this flaming looooong URL from Calgary. Not sure why but when I look at it the word "penile" pops out at me. Maybe it's because the last SkewURL is still on my mind. Or maybe it's because it's followed by something about stones. Either way, alllowercase does not do this URL any justice. It could really benefit from some shrinkage.

www.Internationale-Feng-Shui-Akademie.de

Bad URL

Ian Conrad of Porcelain Duck fame is as obssessed with Papyrus as I am with URLs. Recently our passions collided with the spotting of this URL in Germany boasting Papyrus font. Ian points out the problems Papyrus poses to URLs on vehicles on his Papyrus Watch blog. He proposes FungSheuSpirit.de as an alternative. As it stands, this URL is about as appealing as Biersuppe.

MENWHOLOOKLIKEKENNYROGERS.COM

Bad URL

This one came my way from Jeff Campbell (who, btw, couldn't look anything less like Kenny Rogers). I wonder if the XXL version of this shirt (which would be for men who look like Kenny Rogers circa 1995) has enough room for the URL not to wrap? Bottom line, when it comes to URLs, you gotta know when to hold 'em (on one line) and know when to fold 'em (around to 2 lines).

www.jonesBIGASStruckrentalandstorage.com

Bad URL

This one was brought to my attention by Bryson Meunier, a good friend of the Good URL Bad URL family. Took me a while to decipher the URL. Took me even longer to figure out it was all a gag. BIG ASS waste of my time.

thelongestlistofthelongeststuffatthelongestdomainnameatlonglast.com

Good URL

Nathan White sent this one in via the Good URL Bad URL Facebook Group. I like how this URL pokes fun at itself. Reminds me of RRRRThats5Rs.com. And alternating the font color makes sure all those words don't get lost. This URL goes to great lengths to be memorable.

www.denali-thealaskagaspipeline.com

Bad URL

Father Todd is on a roll -- 2 URLs in 2 weeks. There must be something in the Alaskan air these days that's causing URL-aholism. Let's hope that it's not a Denali gas leak. This URL stinks.

www.leesfamousrecipechickenofcincyandky.com

Bad URL

Fellow URL-snob, Matt Waller sent in this eyesore. This URL is truly a recipe for disaster. Throw in 1 part waytooooolooooong, 2 parts awkward abbreviations, and 1 part alllowercase and what do you get? A finger-lickin' Bad URL.

www.Thinkingstartupstarthere.edu

Bad URL

Tameka Kee, Media Post writer extraordinaire, whipped out her trusty cell phone camera when she came across this tooooooloooooooooong URL at a trade show. I'll tell you what -- these guys almost pulled it off. Amazing what a difference alternating colors can do for readability. But the bottom line here is that the bottom line is all wrong -- top line too. Putting the dubs and .edu on separate lines make it hard to tell at a glance that this is an URL. And while your brain is working to process what all those words say, it's unlikely the rare .edu domain extension will stick. Thinkingbadurllookhere.

MyFriendsTiggerandPoohDVD.com

Bad URL

No harried mother or ADD-riddled kid is going to remember this 6 word same-colored URL. At least they didn't try and make us remember how to spell Eeyore!

ThePoetTreeCustomPictureFraming.com

Bad URL

Emily Neiman, long-time reader, first-time spotter, snapped this Bad URL in action. You have to give them credit for dropping the dubs and using leading caps but there's no way anyone's remembering this bad boy. The human mind was just not created to process 6 word URLs (at least not yet.) Besides, how can they see out their back window?

www.kerkenenmensenmeteenverstandelijkehandicap.nl

Bad URL

For some reason, my site is big-time in the Netherlands. Per Google Analytics, I've received more visits from that country than any other outside the U.S. This URL was sent in by Smit Smeding. I looked it up on FreeTranslation.com and apparently it means "Churches and Men with an Intellectual Handicap." Well, I guess that explains it.
