PARKKINGSBURYLOFTS.COM

Behold the HELLAAMBIGUITY that is ALLCAPS. The name of this building is Park Kingsbury Lofts but the eye is trained to read Parking, especially when looking at a sign on a building!

Reminds me of Nosmo King...

LiveAtTheDistillery.com

Good URL

Miss Emma joins the ranks of 2-time URL-spotter with this submission. This one had me at Leading Caps. But I also like how it clearly states the value prop -- you should live here. Not to mention there's a double meaning (which I doubt they intended but still works well) -- come to the website and watch us building the condos live in action. They could have gone with GooderhamCondominiumsAtTheDistillery.com but that doesn't exactly roll off the tongue. They did a good job distilling this URL down to the essentials.

SiliconValleyHomeRaffle.com

Good URL

I was in San Jose for the Search Engine Strategies conference and saw more good URLs per capita than any other city I've visited recently. I guess I shouldn't be surprised given this area is the hub for all things technology. Nothing fancy about this URL -- just some down-home leading caps sans dubs. This URL is at its peak.

TheFutureOfSherman.com

Good URL

Good URL

Now here's a time when I don't mind a demonstrative adjective ("the") kicking off an URL. It's part of the thought here and adds meaning, not just some throw-away word tacked on because the URL they wanted was taken. I also like how they get your attention with the billboard and encourage you to check out their website. Kudos to Sebastian Wyman for not taking their advice and getting out his camera. If their URL is any indication, the future of Sherman is looking good.

www.svn112.com

Bad URL

OMG, I hate acronym URLs. Unless the company is commonly known as such. I doubt Sperry Van Ness goes by SVN though. And the 112 is seemingly random. Turns out 112 is the address of the agent (not the property being sold). Apparenly, SVN (henceforth, they shall be known by the acronym -- hey, they made their bed!) has a bunch of different agents and they tack on to SVN to get their own domain. I just hate when companies take a marketer-centric approach to their URL, rather than consumer-centric. If you want people to remember your URL, you have to make it meaningful to them, not you! This URL is truly SVN -- So Very Nasty.

PruPref.com

Bad URL

The hits... er, misses keep coming folks. Here's another cut-off URL. Not sure how they chose this one. The company is Prudential Fine Homes International and this division is Preferred Properties. Maybe in-house they call themselves Prudential Preferred and maybe, just maybe, someone once somewhere somehow referred to them as PruPref but that is not license to cast an URL. My pref wwould be for them to use an URL they already own PrudentialPreferredProperties.com. Sure, it's a mouthful and that's a lot of "P" but it beats the nonsensical PruPref.

SUPERIOR110.COM

Bad URL

This one's just strange. That futuristic font makes all the letters and numbers run together -- especially the I that looks like a 1. And putting the numbers after the letters in a street address is not intuitive. This URL is inferior.

2005thavenue.com

Bad URL

This is just all wrong. So many ways this URL could be misread. Does that say 2005? Haven? They should've gone with 200FifthAvenue.com. Maybe I should create an URL-by-number book?

DIAMONDDWELLINGS.COM

Good URL

Just like myredumbrella.com, the beauty of this URL won't come thru in the blog post title. But when displayed with different font colors and his sizes, it really comes to life. Props to reader Matt from Dacula for creating this diamond in the rough.

KinYuRealty.com

Good URL

Edwin Sherman, a fellow URL-spotter in NYC sent this one in with the comment, "For me it represents the global reach of the internet with a unique East meets West theme." Well put, Edwin. For me, it goes to show you don't need English as your first language to know the difference between a good and bad URL.

atproperties.com

Bad URL

They really should've thought of this before they decided to name the company @properties. Making the best of this worse case scenario would be choosing an URL like HomesInChicago.com or ChicagoRealEstate.com. The business was founded in the late 90's so I'm sure some decent category URLs were available if they had gotten up and at 'em.
