www.chick-fil-aleadercast.com/atlanta

Here's another SkewURL (for the uninitiated, those are URLs spotted by URL-aholic Peter Askew of Search Bound) from Chick-Fil-A . Peter seems to eat there a lot!

This one is a mess of mashed up alllowercase and an ill-advised /slash. As Peter points, out it should've been Chick-Fil-A.com/LeadercastAtlanta or dropped Atlanta altogether and had a drop-down on the landing page.

As it stands, this URL is not chic. It's not ful-fil-ling. And it grades an F not an A.

www.mayo-clinic-jobs.com

Alichia Keller was on-the-spot with this bad banner ad. 3 dashes does not exactly make this URL dashing.

www.edil-max.it

Behold the dreaded dash in this Roman URL. They’re really not max-imizing the real-estate here. Rome may not have been built in a day but this URL sure won't stand the test of time.

f-k.com

Bad URL

Peter Askew checks in with his 37th SkewURL. The man is a one man wreck-URLing machine. And while this cup may be eco-friendly (although I bet the folks over at Beta Cup would have something to say about that), the URL is not exactly reader-friendly. In fact, I'd go so far as say it's f-k'ed up. Iced coffee may go well with a dash of sugar but URLs don't go well with a dash of anything.

www.d-fend.us

Good URL

This just goes to show that my rules are not hard and fast. I think this one works despite the dubs, alllowercase, dash, abbreviation and alternate domain. I like the play on words with "defend us." And since .us is not a popular TLD using the www helps reinforce that this is indeed an URL. And the dash helps the D-Fend abbreviation stand out. So, despite going 0 for 5, this URL comes up with some clutch defense to claim victory. Thanks to Jamie Forrest for the spot here!

www.J-AAC.com

Bad URL

Here's another SkewURL from the man, the myth, the legend, Peter Askew -- or shall we call him the King of the URL in the ATL? I won't repeat the joke he made about this URL but let's just say it was off-putting.

www.Internationale-Feng-Shui-Akademie.de

Bad URL

Ian Conrad of Porcelain Duck fame is as obssessed with Papyrus as I am with URLs. Recently our passions collided with the spotting of this URL in Germany boasting Papyrus font. Ian points out the problems Papyrus poses to URLs on vehicles on his Papyrus Watch blog. He proposes FungSheuSpirit.de as an alternative. As it stands, this URL is about as appealing as Biersuppe.

tiaa-cref.org/ira8

Bad URL

Here's another example of a bad attempt at tracking response to TV ads. As if tiaa-cref.org wasn't an obscure enough URL, they had to tack on the slash to try and detect traffic from this particular commercial. This URL is not gr8.

www.s-bag.com

Bad URL

Here's another SkewURL submitted via Good URL Bad URL's Facebook page. Peter found this on his vaccuum cleaner bag. Who-over came up with this one is, as Tina Fey might say, a real d-bag.

yourlocal-forddealer.com

Bad URL

Peter Askew must not sleep. The man is a machine. Here's a batch of SkewURLs submitted via Facebook. Not sure how these guys decided which words to hyphenate here. Ford-dealer seems more intuitive to me. Of course, I'd rather they didn't include the dashes at all. Makes it too tough to decipher.

millerlite-atllounge.com

Bad URL

Here's another bad hyphenated-alllowercase URL. At least the hyphen seems to be in the right place here. But when you're using an abbreviation like ATL, you need to treat it with the CAPS it deserves. Same for your brand name. Truth is, there's no good way to display this one what with the back to back L's. Whoever came up with this one should slap a big L on their forehead.

www.holiday-inn.com/cmh-cityctr

Bad URL

Here's an eyechart for ya. First off, they own HolidayInn.com so no idea why they're using the Holiday-Inn.com. And the URL only goes downhill from there. A slash, an airport code, and a nonsensial abreviation. Toss in the dubs and alllowercase and if this were Bad URL Bingo we'd have a full-card winner. As Heidi Klum might say, when in comes to URLs, you're either In(n) or you're Out. Auf weidersehen.

www.i-am.tv

Bad URL

This one comes from the URL-errific Peter Askew. The dubs, dash and dot-tv don't exatcly make this URL jump off the screen.

1-877-Kars-4-Kids.org

Bad URL

Fellow URL-aholic Scott Winkler sent this one in. Oh, Bad URL, how much do I hate thee? Let me count the ways...

1. dot-org dot-sucks
2. Changing the C in cars to a K only confuses the matter
3. Using IM lingo 4 for "for" is only a good idea when you're targeting kids (or shall, I say... cids?)
4. Combining the phone number and URL only works when they are one and the same. In this case, they don't own 1-877-Kars-4-Kids.org. They don't even have Kars-4-Kids.org. The actual URL is Kars4Kids.org.

I hate to pick on non-profits but they're just squandering donations pumping money into ads like this that end up lining the pockets of domain squatters. This URL should be 4-closed.

www.bobevansbob-b-q.com

Bad URL

Peter Askew of Domainer's Gazette fame sent this one in. Apparently his "friend" JR spotted it. C'mon, Peter, you can admit you eat at Bob Evans. We won't hold it against you. We already know you're a regular at Chick-fil-a. We will hold this URL against Bob Evans though. Cute bob-b-q pun but string it all together in an URL with your brand name and you get a b-b-b-b-b-b-b-ad URL.

www.denali-thealaskagaspipeline.com

Bad URL

Father Todd is on a roll -- 2 URLs in 2 weeks. There must be something in the Alaskan air these days that's causing URL-aholism. Let's hope that it's not a Denali gas leak. This URL stinks.

garden-flags.com

Bad URL

Peter Askew, the man of oh so many URLs, sent this one in. Looks like something my 4 year-old cousin drew. I like the colors to help the words stand out but the dash gets completely lost in this treatment. This URL should've been flagged before it ever went live.

Bad URL

OK, you know you've got a Bad URL when you have to tell people "Don't forget the dash in the middle." As Bryson Meunier, the man behind this URL spot, put it, "Good cause, Bad URL." Seems like a pretty open and shut case to me.

www.handi-craft.com

Bad URL

Sorry for the infrequent posting. As you can imagine, spending time with my baby girl, Eliara, has been cutting into my URL-spotting. It has, however, introduced me to a whole new category of brands sporting Good and (mostly) Bad URLs. For example, check out the URL on this bottle. Now, I know that I'm in the minorty of parents that will actually notice an URL while I'm feeding my child. And I am surely the only who will take a picture of it. So that leaves me as the only one who will actually remember handi-craft.com. The dubs serve to just clutter up an already crowded bottle exterior (that contains much more important info like the number of ounces of formula.) And the all-lower-case-with-dashes make it even more of a clusterf... hey, no cussing around the baby! These guys need to perfect their craft a bit more and start using an URL that's more handy!

www.smoke-free.illinois.gov

Bad URL

Here's another example of dubs, dashes and lower case rendering an URL unreadable. About the only thing they did right here was use a subdomain rather than an extension. What I don't understand is why they added the dash rather than use leading caps? Wouldn't SmokeFree.Illinois.gov have worked a lot better? As it stands, this URL's chances of being remembered just went up in smoke.
